Obituary

William "Sonny" Franklin Baker, 76, of Romney, WV went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2024 surrounded by his family while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

He was born on September 19, 1947 in Romney, WV; he was the son of the late Robert W. Baker & Armetha C. Hott Baker.

Sonny was one-of-a-kind. He was slow to anger and quick to love. Whatever room he was in, smiles and laughter were sure to be present. His love for his family was immense; and he was sure to tell each of us how much we meant to him. He loved watching football and cheering on the Redskins. He also enjoyed watching Nascar races. He treasured his time on the family farm, riding horses, and summers making hay with the family.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, JoAnn Hott & her husband Ersel, as well as one nephew, Donnie Everett.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Ann Timbrook Baker; three brothers, Richard "Dick" W. Baker, Sr. (Linda), Ronnie L. Baker (Becky), Terry W. Baker (Charlene); six nieces, Teresa Everett, Tammy Ayers (Chip), Rhonda Park (Ralph), Tracy Orndorff (Kent), Elizabeth Baker, Angie Davis (Spencer); three nephews, Tim Hott, Michael Hott (Tracy), and DJ Baker; twelve great nieces, Hillary, Bethany, Brittany, Lindsay, Lauren, Katlyn, Amber, Lily, Sydney, Allison, Sada, and RandiJo; eight great nephews, EJ, Tyler, Lucus, Zachary, Zane, Brandon, Brennon, and Liam; six great-great nieces and ten great-great nephews; and many other special family members.

Sonny valued hard work and started his career at the age of 15 working at Romney Orchards. At age 16 he purchased his family farm and began working the land. Throughout his life, he worked at Romney Concrete and Romney Stone. After years of this, he started WR Farms Feed & Stone with his brothers and ran a successful business for nearly 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Hampshire County Farm Bureau, previous member of the Augusta Ruritan, and received his Honorary FFA Degree for his support of the Hampshire County FFA.

We encourage all of you to live life like our Uncle Sonny; letting all that you do be done with love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)
