Robert "Bob" Lewis Ferrell, 74, of Baker, WV passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
Born on April 16, 1947 in Woodstock, VA, he was the son of the late Rex Ferrell and Bessie Wilson Ferrell.
Bob was a kind hearted individual who devoted most of his life to law enforcement, serving over 40 years, as a deputy sheriff, Wardensville town police officer, a private investigator and 16 of those years as Hardy County sheriff.
Bob graduated from Wardensville High School then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, on the ship USS DuPont DD941 as a radio person and then on land to find enemy targets.
Bob was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. He served on the Board of Directors at E.A. Hawse Health Center, Lost River Valley V.F.W., Post 7780 and the Moorefield American Legion. He had a love of vintage automobiles, especially 57 Chevys. He and Janet enjoyed traveling to classic and street rod shows. Where you saw Bob, usually Janet was by his side. Bob was a gentleman who loved his family, God, and his country.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Lee High and brothers, Jim, Max, and Roland Ferrell.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Stump Ferrell, daughters, Melody Leatherman of Wardensville, WV, Bonnie Lenharr of Blumont, VA, step-sons, Ryan Rohrbaugh of Moorefield, WV, Bryan Rohrbaugh of Petersburg, WV, brothers, Richard Ferrell of Woodstock, VA, Billy Ferrell of Baker, WV, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Bean Settlement, Baker, WV with Pastor Aaron Himes officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Navy.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 6-8 P.M., at McKee funeral home, Baker, WV.
All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV.
