Rachel Wanda Shoemaker, 78, of Romney, WV passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born on March 27, 1945 in Augusta, WV, she was the daughter of the late Jesse O. Ludwick and Lela Pearl (Knotts) Ludwick.

Rachel had retired as a house parent from the WV School for the Deaf and Blind, Romney, WV.  She was a member of White Pine Church of the Brethren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded In death by 5 brothers, Henry Ludwick, Willard Ludwick, Clyde Ludwick, Elmer Ludwick, Marion Ludwick, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Pownall and Laura Timbrook.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Shoemaker, a son, Tim Shoemaker (Brandy) of Fort Ashby, WV, a daughter, Karen Heare (Mark Dixon) of Littlestown, PA, 5 grandchildren, Gary Heare (Michelle), Brett Shoemaker, Abel Crites, Taulanna Spicer (Philip), Lily Crites, 2 great-grandchildren, Valerie and Oren Heare and her siblings, Ray Ludwick, Robert Ludwick, and Ruth Rippon and former daughter-in-law, Mary Shoemaker.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV with Pastor Donald Judy officiating.  Interment will be in Tearcoat Cemetery, Augusta, WV.   The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. until time of service.
