Owen Eugene Whetzel, 72, of Mathias, WV passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025 at his residence.

Born on June 20, 1952 in Bergton, VA, he was the son of the late Homer Grant Whetzel and Lethia Thelma (Mongold) Whetzel.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Darlan and Buddy Mongold and sisters, Glee Delawder, Annis Dispanet, and Fay Weaver.

Owen is survived by his loving wife, Angilee (Barb) Whetzel, his sons, Lee Whetzel (Sarah) of Mathias, WV, Eugene Whetzel (Keisha) of Moorefield, WV, and Jason Shell (Terri) of Winchester, VA, 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a brother, Ivan Whetzel.

Owen was a graduate of Mathias High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked in carpentry and logging, a self-proclaimed, "jack of all trades, master of none" but found his true calling as a pastor.  He had a true desire to help people find the Lord and making sure they were prepared for the last day of their life. He proudly served as pastor of Jobe Apostolic Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Baker WV with Rev. Daniel Garlitz officiating.  Interment will be in Jenkins Chapel Cemetery, Mathias, WV.  The family will receive friends on Friday, 5-7pm, at the funeral home.
