Matthew Earl Stewart, 39, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021, from complications due to COVID. Even though this illness took him away from this world to soon, his easy-going loving nature left a beacon of light behind for the family & all in the community.
He was born to Timothy & Sally Stewart on Nov. 15, 1981. After graduating from high school, Matt chased his dreams to further his education & found a love for teaching the visually impaired at various facilities for Raleigh County Schools for a few years. His cheerful attitude & infectious smile will be missed at the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf & the Blind, Romney, WV where he excelled as an Orientation & Mobility Therapist for the past 7 years. Matt taught several summer semesters at West Virginia University as well. He touched the lives of so many of his students who have gone on to become productive members of their communities & they have shown a profound respect for his compassionate involvement in their lives.
Matthew is survived by his ex-wife, Tabitha Stewart and was an extremely proud father of his son Tyler, brother, Mark Lanham & wife Shellie, nephews Storm & Ryan; aunt, Karen Shew & husband, Bruce, cousin Christopher; grandmother, Wanda Stewart; aunt, Louise Stacey & cousin, Kaitlin.
The Celebration of Life ceremonies will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Romney First United Methodist Church, 49 N. High Street, Romney, WV with Rev. Mark James officiating which will include an American Sign Language interpreter & at 2 pm on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at the Teays Valley Church of God, 185 Connection Point, Scott Depot, WV with Pastor Melissa Pratt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf & the Blind Foundation, 301 E Main St, Romney, WV 26757.
All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.
