Lucy Ellen Lee Whetzel, 94, of Romney, WV went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born on November 18, 1929 in Hampshire County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Elburn "Shorty" Kesner and Daisy (Wilson) Kesner.

Lucy was united in Holy Matrimony on November 29, 1946 to the love of her life, her handsome sailor, James G. Whetzel.

Lucy was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to those who knew her. She attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was known as "Aunt Lucy" to the congregation.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James G. Whetzel. She was also preceded by her beautiful daughter, Carolyn Conard, a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Whetzel; 6 brothers: Curtis Kesner, Elburn "Bo" Kesner, James Kesner, Garland Kesner, Bobby Kesner and infant Benjamin Kesner, and 3 sisters: Dorothy Starnes, Ruth Grapes, and Myrtle "Peggy" Mayhew.

Surviving are 4 sons: James J. Whetzel and wife Debbie of Caldwell, Ohio, Alvin K. "Kenny" Whetzel of Romney, WV, Richard L. Whetzel and wife Bonnie of Gore, VA, Stephen D. Whetzel and wife Kay of Romney, WV and one daughter, Debra L. Simmons of Romney, WV, son-in-law, Wade Conard of Augusta, WV; 2 sisters, Alwilda "Billy" Corbin of Augusta, WV and Kay Nickelson of Romney, WV,  3 brothers, Eugene Kesner of Springfield, WV, Harry Kesner and Melvin Kesner, both of Romney, WV, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Romney, WV with Pastor Lucinda Davis and Bucky Wilson officiating.  Interment will be in St. Luke's Cemetery, Romney, WV.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.
