Obituary

Kirk Lockwood, 80, of Romney, WV passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Kirk was born on April 22, 1945 in Washington, DC. He was the son of Patricia Wynngate Newmark Lockwood and Howard Newmark, and the stepson of Harry Lockwood.

In 1970, Kirk married the love of his life, Regina Medeiros, and they moved to West Virginia from Washington, DC. They both became integral parts of the Hampshire County community, making friends easily and caring for many a young person who needed their guidance and friendship. Kirk and Regina had one biological daughter, Jaime Alison Lockwood. They were married 41 years.

Kirk was employed by the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind for the majority of his adult life. He cared deeply for the children and his colleagues, many of whom became his lifelong friends and who were with him until the end.

In his retirement, Kirk began to paint and was a prolific artist the last two decades of his life. His paintings were given as gifts to people he cared about and admired, and he often donated them to fundraisers for breast cancer research. Painting engaged him and brought him great joy in his later years.

Kirk is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, his wife, Regina, and one brother, Todd Newmark. He is survived by his daughter, Jaime, of Alexandria, Virginia, and her family; one sister in Chappaqua, New York, and three brothers who reside in London and Oxford, England. Kirk is also survived by many nieces and nephews and chosen family throughout the Romney area.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at McKee Funeral Home in Romney on May 31-, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
