John F. Lawlor, 78, of Mathias, WV passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at his residence.

Born on October 6, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas L. Lawlor and Anna M. (Kitchen) Lawlor.

He was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School in 1962 and earned a BA and MA in History from Temple University and a PhD in History from Villanova University. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1962 and served in Vietnam for a 13 month tour of duty.  He was honorably discharged in 1966.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Etta Virginia (Martyn) Lawlor on June 14, 2020.  He was also preceded by his siblings, Suzanna L. Lawlor and Thomas L. Lawlor, Jr.

He is survived by a daughter, Terri Murphy of Mathias, WV, a son, Gerald Glick, a sister, Catherine L. Long, and nieces, Anna C. Long and Susan P. Long.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He loved his family and knew how to be a good friend.
