Obituary

John Allen Dillinger, known to many as a loving father, dedicated Navy veteran, and a true outdoorsman, peacefully passed away at the age of 93 on September 15, 2024, in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Born on September 19, 1930, in Keister, Pennsylvania, John led a remarkable life filled with service, love, and adventure. He was a proud graduate of West Virginia University, accomplishing this milestone at the age of 70, showcasing his determination and lifelong love of learning.

John's career was marked by his service in the U.S. Navy, where he rose to the prestigious rank of E9 Master Chief and valiantly served in the Korean War. His commitment to his country and fellow veterans extended beyond his military career as he later became a respected representative for the VFW, advocating tirelessly for the rights and well-being of his comrades.

Outside of his professional life, John found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. These hobbies reflected his deep connection with nature and his appreciation for the beauty of the world around him.

In his personal life, John was a devoted father to his daughter Virginia Hall and sons Michael and Matthew Dillinger and a cherished grandfather to his thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter's husband Ronn Hall, daughters-in-law Amanda Dillinger and January Dillinger. He was preceded in death by a son, John Allen Dillinger Jr.

John's warm and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who knew him. He had a unique ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him and his caring spirit left a lasting impact on friends and family alike.

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 1:00pm at the Old Rio School House in Rio, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations and cards be sent to Michael Dillinger at 79 Lincoln Street, Keyser, WV 26726.
