John Dolan Basye, 86, of Mathias, WV passed away on September 9, 2026 at the Staunton Post Acute Rehab, Staunton, VA.

Born on April 14, 1940 in Mathias, WV, he was the son of the late Theodore Frank Basye and Lottie (Bowers) Basye.

John was a graduate of Mathias High School, an Army veteran, Pipe Line Welder, a member of the Mathias VFW, Mathias Mennonite Church and the NRA. He loved the Pipe Line work, hunting, fishing, was a self taught gunsmith and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Surviving is his wife, Paticia E. (Pattee) Basye, two sons, Terry W. Basye (Lisa) of Baker, WV and John D. Basye II (Pattie) of Baker, WV, four grandchildren, Hannah Moreland (Nick), Allison Heflin (Eric), Wyatt Basye (Myra) and Morgan Mallow (Michael), five great- grandchildren, Wrynn, Maryn, Hudson, Weston, and Masye, and a brother, Frank Jr. Basye.

Funeral service will be on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at  McKee Funeral Home Chapel in Baker, WV with Pastor Raphael Hott and Pastor Dean Williams officiating. Interment will be at the Mathias Mennonite Cemetery, Mathias. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
