Jack Odell Grapes, 85, of Romney, WV passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at his residence.

Born on February 26, 1938 in Slanesville, WV, he was the son of the late Benjamin Grapes and Florence (Wolford) Grapes.

Jack was a graduate of Capon Bridge High School, Class of 1956.  He retired from Potomac Edison in 1997 after over 40 years of service.  He served in the 351 Infantry Reserves. Jack was a member of the Capon Bridge Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad before moving to Romney where he became a member of the Romney Rescue Squad. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Romney, WV.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anne (Muse) Grapes, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1957 in Slanesville, WV, his children, Tim Grapes and Beth Eckerson, both of Romney, WV, his grandchildren, whom he adored, Vanessa Grapes of Sterling, VA, Ben Grapes of Arlington, VA, Lucas Eckerson and fiancé Rachel Morningstar of Martinsburg, WV and Trevor Eckerson of Romney, WV.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Ellen Whitacre, Jean Shipley, Waldon Grapes and Glendora Vest.

Jack enjoyed woodwork in his work shop, the WVU Mountaineers, and community events.  He never met a stranger and loved being with his family and friends, socializing and eating.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, WV with Rev. Dr. Roy Knight and Rev. Mark James officiating.  Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Slanesville, WV. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 6-8pm, at the funeral home.
