Obituary

Harriet Evangaline Kimes, 78, of Rio, WV, formerly of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester VA.  She was surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Born on June 6, 1947 in Weston, WV, she was the daughter of the late Homer N. Pankey and Jane Beverly (Staples) Pankey.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Garnett Pankey, Helen Miller, Beverly "Bev" Pankey, Dr. Homer Pankey, and her only grandson, Spencer Lee Van Camp.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Thomas W. Kimes, her children, Christine Kimes (Richard Raposa) and Bryan Kimes, both of Martinsburg, WV, and a cherished great-granddaughter, Olivia Van Camp.

Harriet was a member of the Moorefield Church of the Brethren, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Order of the Eastern Star of Moorefield, WV, Chapter 102. She had retired as a bank teller from the Inwood Branch of City National Bank.

Harriet was a loving wife and mother.  She was known for her award-winning chili, apple pies, needlework and quilting.
