Obituary

Ervin Dolan Bean was born on August 28, 1934, in Bean Settlement, West Virginia. He attended Birch School and Moorefield High School. He grew up working on the family farm, raising cattle, sheep, chickens, and pigs.

Ervin moved to Northern Virginia and formed a roofing company called Bean & Mallow, which prospered and expanded its business throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area until his retirement.

The success of the Bean & Mallow partnership enabled Ervin to travel extensively in Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean Islands with his wife and other business associates. After retiring, he purchased an RV and toured all 50 states (some states twice), spending January and February in Florida. Their three-month trip through Canada and Alaska was one of the biggest highlights of his life.

Ervin would later co-own several farms in Bean Settlement, and he took great pride in raising cattle and building a second home located in Bean Settlement lovingly called "The Rock Farm".

He enjoyed hunting, riding his ATV, picking mushrooms, anything farm-related, cookies, traveling, watching the Washington Nationals and NASCAR, sitting on the porch, puzzling and word search, and spending time with family, friends, and their two cats.

Ervin is survived by his wife Betty, children Regina Liechti (Tom), Alan Bean (Sheri), Marcia Dermatas (John), two stepsons Randy (Leslie) and Michael Reau, six grandchildren Melissa Huber (John), Scott Liechti, Hollie Robison (Matthew), Steven Dermatas, Kelsey Dermatas, and Gretchen Dermatas, four step-grandchildren Tabitha Reau, Samantha Reau, Dana Hartzell, and Joseph Reau, two great-grandsons Josiah Escabi and Zane Huber, his sister Verona Oliver (Shep) his sister-in-law Margaret Bean, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dolan and Audney Bean, his brother Alvin Bean, and granddaughter Amber Rae Escabi.

He was proud of his West Virginia roots and took every opportunity to come "home".
