Enid Frances Grapes Saville, 101, of Romney, West Virginia passed away at home on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024.
She was the ninth of twelve children, born to Virgil Benton Grapes and Martha Edna Flora Cheshire on December 12, 1922 in Creekville, West Virginia. She was the last surviving member of her family.
She attended Hoy School. She worked at the Kinney shoe factory. On June 15, 1941, she married Lynn Saville. During WWII she worked at the arsenal in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Later she worked at her brother's, E.L. Grape's store. She and her husband own and operated Lynn's Orchard and Market in Romney.
In 1998, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years.
Surviving is one daughter, Kay Shannon (Joel) and four grandchildren, Susan (Thomas) Sine, Kelly (Steven) Sperry, Scott (Jennifer) Shannon, and Ross (Joy) Shannon. She has 12 great-grandchildren and 11 great great-grandchildren.
Enid was proud of her 60 years as a member of the Farm Bureau. In 2014, she was chosen to represent Hampshire County as Belle. Enid was also a member of Zion Church of Christ. She volunteered at Ruritan Club events, the Hampshire County Fair, Eastern Christian College and numerous organizations. She enjoyed quilting, fishing and horseshoes. From the age of 12, she played piano at churches and in later life at the local nursing home. She taught Sunday school and was involved in WV Community Outreach Services. Her life of service was a testament to her Christian faith. We hope her life serves as a model of service to community, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Christian Church, Augusta WV with Pastor Scott Shannon officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, WV. The family will receive friends on Friday, 6-8pm, at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.
