E. Jewell Rannells, 100, of Romney, WV passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Hampshire Memorial Long Term Care, Romney, WV.

Born on September 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Howard J. Compton and Verna O. Shanholtzer.

Jewell had worked as the secretary for the Hampshire Co. Extension office for 29 years.  She was a former board member of the Committee on Aging, former President of the Hampshire County Historical Committee and a member of God's Word Fellowship Church, Romney.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Howard Rannells in 1990 and by her siblings, Sarah Frances Hamilton, Loring Compton, Sherman Compton and Emmerson C. Compton.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sandy Thornburg, Flat Woods, WV, Sally Vance, Ashland, KY, Estelle Suk, Lewisburg, WV, Steve Compton (Sue), Martinsburg, WV and Jack Compton (Linda), Knoxville, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Romney WV with Pastor Dave Simmons officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Augusta, WV. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
