Denton "Denny" Clarence Thorne, of Romney, West Virginia, passed away on July 6, 2026 at the age of 84 years.
He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia and was the eldest son of the late Clarence D. Thorne and Ruth A. (Flinn) Thorne – Arbogast, of Moorefield, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Thorne; three children, Terrill “Terry” (wife Kelly) Thorne, Denise (husband Darrin) Shaffer, and Derek (wife Missy) Thorne; five grandchildren, Matthew Thorne, Cole Shaffer, Trenton Shaffer, Christian Thorne, and Cayden Thorne; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Gary Thorne, of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, and one sister, Linda Saville, of Augusta, West Virginia.
Denny was a long-time resident of Romney where he once managed the HP Store and, later, owned and operated Denny’s Family Store. He graduated from Moorefield High School in Moorefield, West Virginia, attended Shepherd College, and served for four years in the United States Army. He was also a member of the Romney First United Methodist Church.
He was a loving husband and father, a kind and generous friend, and a true gentleman who will be dearly remembered for his outlook on life, devotion to family, keen intellect, and distinctive sense of humor. He will always be in our thoughts and will forever be regarded as the pillar of the family.
With respect to Denny’s wishes, the family will have a private celebration of life.
