Cynthia Alaine Corwin Walters, adored mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021 after a brief illness and an absolutely wonderful, full life. Originally of Morgantown, WV, she had made Pine Ridge in Hardy County her home for the last 45 years.

Surviving are her two children, Nathan Heltzel Walters (married to Leigh Ann) and Rachael Corwin Walters Brightwell (married to Barrett), as well as her brother, Charles Corwin (Marlene). She also leaves behind a loving community of dear friends who she loved as if they were family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Agnes Corwin, a brother, Larry Lee, and two sisters, Crystal Bonnell and Cheryl Calvert.

Born to be a grandmother, Cindy's last four years were some of the best of her life, spending nearly every moment marveling at the every move of her three grandchildren: Rachael's sons Henrik Bear and Rhodes Hardy, and Nathan's daughter Reese Heltzel.

A 1968 graduate of Morgantown High School, Cindy earned both her bachelor and master's degrees from West Virginia University, and was an avid Mountaineers fan and frequent fixture in the Blue Lot. If you were ever in her orbit during a game, we apologize for the likely permanent hearing loss.

Cindy spent her career as a passionate advocate for children. First, as a social worker, then in her later decades as an educator for Hardy County Schools. Besides her family, her students were the greatest loves of her life.

Her desire to see the world, and ensure her students be able to see it with her, called her to lead many educational international trips. Her home is covered in photos of her and her students on trips to Spain, Italy, France, Morocco, Ireland, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Closer to home, she was actively involved with the Hardy County ESOL program, and took great pride in the many successes of her students.

She was an unapologetic Democrat, and would want you to know that. She was fulfilled by her work with the Hardy County Democratic Women and endless efforts encouraging young people to exercise their right to vote.

A private funeral will be held, with a celebration of her life to be announced at a later date.  All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV.

She will be missed every single day.
