Obituary

Courtney Raymond Tusing, age 94, Rock Oak, WV passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester, VA.

Born August 29, 1925, in Rock Oak, WV, he was the son of George Marshall Tusing and Lillie Riggleman Tusing.  Courtney graduated from Moorefield High School in 1942 as class valedictorian.  He was a US Marine Corps veteran, drafted at age 18 and discharged after WWII ended, in 1946.  He received his college education at Bucknell University, graduating in June 1947 with a BA in Economics and a minor in math.  He enjoyed a 38-year banking career starting in 1947 and retiring on August 31, 1987 as President and CEO of First United Bank and Trust in Oakland, MD.  After retiring, he served 20 years as a member of the Board of Directors of Capon Valley Bank and Highland Bankshares, Inc., thus completing a total of 58 years of banking experience.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mattie Webster Tusing (the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Webster);  two children, Cynthia (married to Charles Pike) and George (married to Diane Kratz); five grandchildren ,Jennifer, Suzy, and Todd Pike; Jessica and Megan Tusing, and five great grandchildren.  Courtney had two sisters (Evelyn Bean - deceased - and Jettye Loy Hott), a brother (Kenneth - deceased), and two half- sisters (Joanne Doty - deceased - and Elba Miller).

He was an active member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, in Rio, WV, and a member of the church choir for many years.  He was a loving husband and father who always appreciated his relationships with relatives and enjoyed spending time with his friends.

All services were private and handled by McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV.
