Claude J. Rowzee, 91 ½ of Levels, WV died Friday, November 22, 2024, at Hampshire Center in Romney, WV. Jay was born May 17, 1933 in Levels, WV, the son of the late Samuel W. Edna (Puffinburger) Rowzee. Other than his military service in Korea and briefly living in Manassas, VA he lived in Levels, WV. He proudly informed people that his Dad, a carpenter, built/remodeled numerous buildings in Levels.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Russell and sister's in law, Merceda and Shirley Rowzee.
Survived by his wife, Barbara (Davis) Rowzee of 59 plus years, his daughters, Kathy (Gary) Herron of Maysville, WV, Theresa (Michael) Miller of Paw Paw, WV and Carole (Wade) Garrett of Stephen City, VA, sons, Ronald (Mary) Rowzee of Levels, WV and Larry Rowzee of Levels, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. He is also survived by a brother, Paul Rowzee of Paw Paw.
He greatly loved his family, cats that he rescued and his daughter's Cocker Spaniel, Maddy, spending lots of time with them. He lived up the nickname "Candy Grandpap" always having candies in hand.
Jay honorably served in the Korean War 1953-55. He worked in Forest and Catherine Long's orchard in Levels at a young age. He was a mechanic at Romney Ford Sales in Romney, Parkway Ford in Washington D.C and Chaney Chevrolet in Cumberland, MD. He was self –employed with Rowzee's Auto Service in Romney for several years and the WV Department of Highways.
Funeral service will be conducted at the McKee Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta on November 27, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Denzil Davis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Points, WV with Military Graveside rites by US Army.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joshua Miller, Jeremiah Miller, Christopher Miller, Dusten Rowzee, Jordan Garrett and great-grandson Ethan Herron. Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Ford and the late grandson JoDan Herron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Levels Volunteer Fire Department, 28 Frenches Station Rd. Levels, WV 25431 or Wesley Chapel Cemetery, 11949 Jersey Mtn Rd Levels, WV 25431.
His family would like to thank Hampshire Center in Romney, WV for their special care and support while he was there.
