Obituary

Our dear mother, Charlotte Ellen Brayton Merritt, sadly passed away on June 20, 2023 at 92 years of age. Born in Gouverneur, New York, she and her husband relocated to the beautiful mountains of Mathias, West Virginia in 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles Merritt.

Charlotte was a wonderful mother of nine children: Cynthia Earney, Bonnie Hubbard, Sherry Loomis, Lon Merritt, David Merritt, Andy Merritt, Jamie Merritt (deceased), Lisa Branson, and Candy Kimple.

Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and more than 20 great-grandchildren.

As well as being a loving mother, Charlotte was an accomplished artist and author. She painted many oil paintings for friends and family, and published a series of comical editorials about "The Good Ole Days" under her pseudonym Lottie Trimm. Her sense of humor was contagious; she loved to laugh and enjoyed the challenge of word games, puzzles, and Scrabble.

Charlotte was a dedicated baptized witness of Jehovah for over 60 years. She was beloved by her friends and spiritual family in both the Black River, New York and Wardensville, West Virginia congregations. She will be sadly missed by all.

Special thanks to the E. A. Hawse nursing home faculty and staff that helped to care for Charlotte in the last few years of her life.

A memorial service for Charlotte will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Baker, West Virginia on Saturday, July 15 at 1 p.m. All are welcome.

All arrangements are under the direction of McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV.
