Obituary

Alice "Jean" Crouse Alkire, 85, of Augusta, WV, was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born on June 2, 1939, in Slanesville, WV, Jean was the daughter of the late Woodrow T. Hott and Lottie M. (Riggleman) Hott. She was a graduate of Capon Bridge High School, Class of 1957.  She was a long-time employee at the Bank of Romney and later in life she owned and operated Jean's Personal Care Home. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, the Southern Gospel Association and the Slanesville Vol. Fire Co.

Jean was a joyful woman of faith, great strength and grace. She was widely known for her cheerful disposition and unwavering positivity, even under the direst of circumstances. She delighted in creating and contributing to the happiness of others through her generous gifts, dedicated work and providing homemade, delicious food at all times.

She was an amazing caregiver and provided 24/7 care for her husband, Jimmy, for over 25 years, earning an "honorary" nursing degree from all those who knew her.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd E. Crouse in 1964 and by her second husband, James P. Alkire in 2003, a brother-in-law, Bud Robinette, sister-in-law, Carol M. Hott and nephew, Steven Robinette.

Her beautiful life will forever be remembered by her loving family: son, Greg Crouse and wife Penny of Leesburg, VA, grandson Austin Crouse and wife Natalie of Leesburg, VA, great-grandchildren, Brady Boyd Crouse and Charlotte Marie Crouse, a sister, Shirley Robinette of Moorefield, WV and a brother, Harold Hott and wife Cheryl of Keyser, WV.

Jean was an exceptionally loving caring person who will be missed beyond measure by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV with Pastor Robert Jeffreys officiating.  Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Slanesville, WV.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, 6-8pm, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Cemetery, c/o Jill Arose, 882 Old Martinsburg Grade Rd., Augusta, WV 26704.
