Alfred Ray Johnson, 82, of Rio, WV passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 4, 1942 in Richlands, WV, he was the son of the late Kenous Elmer Johnson and Beulah L. (Armentrout) Johnson.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Charity Rae Johnson of Inwood, WV, his step-children, Donald Jenkins of Hanover, PA, Dwayne Jenkins of Martinsburg, WV, Anthony Tanner, Sr. of Berkley Springs, WV, Melissa Tanner of Romney, WV, his siblings, Sidney H. Johnson of Viewtown, VA, Franklin K. Johnson of Rio, WV, Nancy L. Mills of Mineral, VA, Helen A. Meksvanh of Port St. Lucie, FLA, Elmer Newton Johnson of Dallas, NC, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alfred entered the Army in April, 1964 and served until March 1966. He was stationed at Leighton Barracks, Wurtzberg, Germany in the 3rd Div MP Company.
After returning from the military he worked on the family farm and neighboring dairy farms. He then worked with the Maryland National Park and Planning commission at the Wheaton Regional Park, Wheaton MD. He was employed by the Montgomery Co. Board of Education as a maintenance glazer, retiring after 29 years and 8 months in 1999.
Alfred was proud of his career and military accomplishments. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his impressive garden, canning, preserving and sharing his large harvest.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 12:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV with Pastor Ethan Hughes officiating. The family will receive friend from 10:30 am until time of service. Interment will be at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, WV. Military rites will be accorded by the US Army.
