Mary Ruth Alger, 70, of Romney, WV passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born on March 8, 1946 at Spruce Pines, NC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Buchanan and Ruth Pittman Buchanan.

She was preceded in death by a son, Sullivan Alger, III and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Sullivan Alger, II; 6 daughters: Vanessa Carter (Robert),  Evelyn Alderman (Jesse), both of Slanesville, WV, Sherry Alger (Clayton Harbaugh) of Winchester, VA, Loretta Storey (Justin),  Samantha Smith (Brian) , both of Augusta, WV, Mildred “Little Mary” Hilton (Jimmy) of Cumberland, MD; 6 sons: Anthony Wayne Alger (Barbara), Wade Edward Alger (April Wasson), both of Augusta, WV, Daniel Lee Alger (Vanessa), Tyler William Alger, both of Romney, WV, Robert Lee Alger of Slanesville, WV, David Lee Alger (Ciara) of Yellow Springs, and adopted son, Wayne Timbrook; 40 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and her step-mother, Edith Pittman of Charlottesville, VA.

She was a child of God and attended Tearcoat Church of the Brethren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, WV with Rev. Robert M. Carter and Rev. Brian K. Smith officiating.  Interment will be in Tearcoat Cemetery, Augusta. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until time of service.

All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, WV.

So sorry to hear about the death of Mary Ruth, she was my cousin. We grew up together in Spruce Pine, N.C. I always loved her as my sister! I was named after her mother Ruth. Please keep in touch with us by email.
