Gilbert W. Harris Sr.

Gilbert W. Harris Sr. 89 of Augusta, WV passed away on Monday December 24, 2007 at his home.

Born on August 3, 1918 in Overland,Mo, he was the son of the late William and Pearl ( Burns) Harris.

He was a Navy Veteran of WW 11 having served on the armed guard crew of a Liberty ship on the Murmansk Run in the North Atlantic, also served in China as a member of the Sino-American Cooperative Organization. He was a member of the Zoar Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a barber for 50 years and retired as owner of the Augusta Barber Shop and Christian Book Store in 2005.He enjoyed sports, gardening and poetry. He was happiest spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by 5 brothers.

Gil was survived by his wife of 61 years Reba (McClain) Harris, also surviving are a daughter, Lynn Aldrich of Westminister, MD, 2 sons, Bill Harris and wife Anita of Augusta, Don Harris and wife Brenda of Warrenton, Va, a sister Fern Parrott of Godfry, Ill., 2 brothers, Charlie Harris of Port Richey, FL, Cleave Harris of Wellton, AR, 6 grandchildren and 2 step-granchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday December 28, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the McKee Funeral Home Chapel Augusta, WV with Pastor Dan Biser officiating.

Interment will be in Augusta Cemetery, Augusta, WV.  Military rites will be accorded by the Hampshire County Veterans Organization.

The family will receive friends on Thursday 7-9 at the funeral home.
