Grover Eugene Hott


Grover Eugene Hott, 62, Kirby, West Virginia passed away Monday, October 29, 2007, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia.

Born May 8, 1945, at home in Kirby, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Loring Stanley Hott and Thelma Virginia Hott.

He was a graduate of Romney High School and a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1967. 

He worked at Kelly Springfield in Cumberland, Maryland for 19 years and retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways in Burlington, West Virginia.  He was a member of The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 172; VFW, American Legion, Modern Woodmen, and Moose Club.  He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and farmer and spent many hours in the woods around his Kirby home and throughout Hampshire County.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and friend to many.  Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Dianne E. (Wolfe) Hott; his son, Grover E. Hott, II and wife Jill of Kirby; his daughter, Rebekah E. Cookman and husband Donald of Romney, and four grandchildren: Brittany Hott, Brooke Hott, Jackson Cookman and Samuel Cookman.  He is also survived  by Five sisters and one brother: Dora Kelley, Atlanta, Georgia; Janet Peters; Farmington, Missouri; Judy Everett, Shanks, West Virginia; Loretta Jean Nelson, Bluefield, West Virginia; Sharon Link, Romney, West Virginia and Junior Hott of Fort Ashby, West Virginia.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Hott of Romney, West Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta, West Virginia with Pastor Gwen Wolford and Pastor James Ward officiating.  Military honors will be presented by the members of Chapter 172 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.  Interment will be at Hott’s Chapel, Kirby, West Virginia.  The family will receive friends at McKee Funeral Home in Augusta, West Virginia on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 from  2:00p.m to 4:00p.m and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the group of the donor’s choice.
